Illustration

An example or depiction that makes something easier to understand, or the giving of such examples.

THE PROCESS

CONCEPTUALIZE

Usually illustrations are required for infographics, books or stories, and serve to help explain or capture a feel or aesthetic. Skecthes are done with the purpose of such communication in mind.

DIGITIZE

Once a sketch is approved, it is then taken to the next level which is to render it for production. This could be hand or digital art work and is the defining factor of how the artwork will look. It is usually influenced by linework and colour with optional textures and effects.

MATERIALIZE

Depending on where the illustration is required, it is output in a specific format such as Jpeg, Png, Eps, Tif, Pdf or ISO, and so on. This is placed in content until the work (story book or InfoGraphic, etc) is complete for production (print or online).

WHAT WOW!MEDIA OFFERS

Different types of illustrative techniques can be used for any given project but a deciding factor for commercial work is time, budget and quantity. For instance, a poster will likely only require one main focal illustration or a few illustrations that can be arranged into a composition, while a book will require several illustrations. I work with Mixed Media at WOW! Media which include transforming hand drawings or painting digitally.
